MORE ABOUT GERSHWIN

With a name like Gershwin, named after the renowned composer George Gershwin, it was only natural that this Mitchells Plain native’s life revolved around music from an early age.

He began his musical journey by playing the recorder and performing with his church’s praise and worship team. Later, he tried his hand at guitar and piano but ultimately found his passion in the bass guitar.

For the past twenty years, Gershwin Koen has been a session musician for various artists during live performances and studio recordings. As a music producer, he has produced nearly 300 songs, several of which have topped the charts on both local and international radio stations.

Many of the albums and singles he has worked on have been nominated for awards. In 2020, he received an American award for Best International Gospel Producer. Blaqpearl, Chad Saaiman, Shana Ray, Jonathan Rubain, Varonica Meyer, Jason Pretorius, Sarah Jane Thomas, and Marsha Bothma are just a few of the artists he has collaborated with.

These days, he is also a radio promoter, distributing songs on behalf of approximately 300 artists and bands to around 1,100 radio stations worldwide. “I know what it feels like to write and produce a great song, only for it to go nowhere due to a lack of funding and knowledge. With this service, I hope to help artists introduce their songs to radio stations and secure airtime for their music.”
