ROBIN FOURIE
Aka Die Hooflig (chat rhymer, course leader).
and creative director
BIO
Robin Fourie’s love for hip-hop began in high school, when he was introduced to the Beastie Boys. This was the perfect genre for Robin to use his vast vocabulary to bring hip-hop and poetry together making him one of the best rhyme authors in the country.
He was a founder of the South Roots Initiative at the Kibbutz in Worcester and co-scriptwriter for their award-winning theatre productions I Long to Sing and Broken Shackles with which they travelled to London, England as well as the United States of America. Both productions dealt with stories from their neighbourhoods.
Except for being a full-time artist, he regards teaching as a mission by using hip-hop and other mediums. In the Breede Valley district, Robin initiated hip hop – resulting in him becoming an OG in that genre, where he was able to bring the spotlight to many other talented hip hop artists in the area.
He is also the manager of the Expression Sessions that he founded with HemelBesem, fifteen years ago in Worcester. This is a platform for up-and-coming artists, and is active in Worcester, Kuilsrivier, George, Oudtshoorn, and in Cape Town itself.
Robin has positioned himself to become an integral part of the ATKV-Crescendo Mentorship Programme, where he is regarded as “The Whisperer”.
His passion, other than singing, is developing and nurturing other musical talents and giving them platforms to shine and share their gift with the world. Long live the whisperer!
