MORE ABOUT LIZL
Lizl Simoes, a piano teacher, master’s degree student, songwriter, singer, and one of ATKV-Crescendo’s recording artists for 2026, could apparently sing before she could talk, according to her mother. At the age of five, the Pretoria-born and -raised musician started piano lessons, and by nine, she began singing lessons. It was on stage, with a microphone in hand, where she truly flourished. “My first singing teacher believed in giving her students as many opportunities as possible. From a young age, I had the privilege of experiencing the inside of a recording studio.”
However, it was only after hearing a captivating performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor by pianist Olga Kern in high school that Lizl decided to follow her passion after school. In 2024, she completed her B.Mus. degree.
She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in music at the University of Pretoria. “I want to do everything I can to help my students reach greater heights. My music is like an open diary for everyone to see, hear, and feel.” She says she’s always looking for a musical adventure. “I can’t wait to embark on this journey with ATKV-Crescendo and experiment with new styles and genres.”
This September, Lizl will take part in ATKV-Crescendo’s final workshop, among other things, in preparation for Crescendo GOUD on 4 October – a production in which she will be introduced to audiences alongside the three other recording artists of 2026.
