MORE ABOUT LUCIA
Lucia Poggenpoel, born in Witbank, is a singer, songwriter, and session musician whose love for music is undeniably a part of who she is. Her musical journey began in primary school when she joined the school choir and took piano lessons. She recalls: “It was only in high school, when I sang a solo for my piano teacher, that the singing bug really bit.”
After school, she earned a BMus degree from North-West University (NWU). Since then, she has expanded her love and talent for the arts by obtaining a professional drama diploma. In 2017, she brought all these creative streams together by completing a Grade 8 musical theatre exam.
In 2023, her music career took a decisive turn when she was selected to participate in the ATKV-Crescendo mentorship programme in Paarl. For Lucia, this experience was more than just a skills development opportunity; it became a safe space for self-discovery and healing.
The song she wrote during those few days, My Crescendo, was chosen last year as the theme song to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ATKV-Crescendo’s talent development legacy. The song is deeply personal and filled with a longing for her brother, who passed away two years earlier. “Even though he is no longer with us on earth, it felt as if he was still growing with me – like a crescendo – and walking this journey alongside me.”
Lucia produced her debut album As jy val with Crescendo Productions. It was released on 15 August 2025.
