Lucia Poggenpoel
2023 finalist, songwriter/singer
BIO
Lucia Poggenpoel, a Pretorian who obtained a B.Mus. degree from the University of North-West, has always loved music. In primary school, she sang in the choir and took piano lessons. "But it wasn't until high school," says Lucia, "when I sang a solo for my piano teacher that the singing bug really bit me."

However, Lucia's talent in the arts is not limited to music. During her studies she completed a professional drama diploma and in 2017 she decided to bring the threads of music, dance and drama together by obtaining a Grade 8 musical theater exam. In addition to teaching, Lucia often performs as a session musician. In 2023 she was chosen to attend the ATKV's music mentorship program in Paarl.

"The program meant a lot to me because it was held in the Paarl where my brother also stayed. He passed away about two years ago and I had a lot of trouble coming to terms with it. The mentorship programme gave me the opportunity to work through my grief. Song-writing is very healing for me."

ATKV-Crescendo is much more than just a mentoring programme for Lucia. "The people involved in this project have not only made me grow musically, but also emotionally."
