MORE ABOUT WHADEN
Whaden Johannes is a singer, songwriter, director, and entertainer from Mamre in the Western Cape. Although South Africans may recognise him for his former role as Priester le Fleur in Arendsvlei and his current role as Joey Fortune in Summertime, Whaden’s career in the South African entertainment industry began when he was a finalist in ATKV-Crescendo.
This multi-talented artist has appeared in several stage productions. Among them was Krismis van Map Jacobs, a prescribed Grade 12 drama performed at schools across the Western Cape. He also featured in Die song wil my nie los nie, written and directed by Hennie van Greunen. With Mamre, written by Nico Scheepers, he tells the story of his community.
The influence of his hometown on his artistry is clear in the fact that his first solo R&B album was also titled Mamre. In 2021, the long-awaited music video for Mosselbaaipunt, a song he originally wrote in 2015, was released.
Whaden is currently involved as a mentor in the ATKV mentorship programme.
