As wind oor my drome kom vee
en die wêreld my weer weeg
dan kom jy soos ’n fluister
tussen dinge wat ek nie kan sê.
Jy is die son in my winter
’n vuur sonder vlam.
Jy is die lig in my donker
’n stil soort bestaan.
Jy is die kalm in my storm
’n asem vol rus
’n lied in my twyfel
jy is my stil.
With these vivid words, singer-songwriter Edinia Citwa (43) from Mossel Bay introduces her latest single, “Jy’s my stil”, which will be aired on radio stations nationwide from 22 September. The song is the second single from her debut EP, Born to Win, which was launched earlier this year at the Daisy Jones Theatre.
The song is an intimate, personal confession that reminds us that love is not always found in grand gestures, but often in the quiet, present moments shared with the people who matter most.
“The lyrics of ‘Jy’s my stil’ came at a time when I was searching for silence and certainty myself,” Edinia explains. “I realised that love doesn’t always need to be loud and overwhelming – sometimes the most beautiful part of love lies in those still moments; in the presence of someone who is simply there. I wanted to capture that in images everyone can understand – the sun in your winter; calm in your storm ... That’s the kind of love I wanted to express with this song.”
Edinia, a mother of three sons, wrote the track while reflecting deeply on love, both found and broken. She put into words what she envisions for love in the future. “I long for a kind of love built on stillness and calm. I want everyone who hears this song to be carried away to those quiet spaces of love and certainty in love,” she says.
The song was produced by Eddie Strings in collaboration with the Crescendo production house. “Eddie immediately understood what I was searching for with the song. I wanted a sound that is soft, calm, and saturated with emotion.”
Edinia says the ATKV-Crescendo mentorship programme not only transformed her music career, but also shaped her life and character. “I did a lot of introspection and overcame many things in the process. It was – and still is – a life-changing experience.”
