MORE ABOUT CHRIS

Name any role in the entertainment industry, and Chris de Bruyn has experience in it. As a student at the former PU for CHE (now North-West University), he was part of the popular Alabama revue group for seven years. For three of those years, he served as the chairperson. Behind the scenes, he gained experience as a lighting technician, stage manager, floor manager, producer, and production manager for numerous productions.

After completing his studies, he worked for two years as the theatre manager of Springs' civic theatre, after which he began his career at the ATKV in 1996. For two years, he was the project organiser for, among others, ATKV-Crescendo, before being appointed in 1998 as manager of all cultural projects at the ATKV.

Since 2003, he has been the manager of the NWU-Artéma Institute for Arts Management and Development, where he was not only responsible for establishing the institute and developing and presenting courses, but also heads up all projects, productions, and events offered by the institute.

One of the highlights of his career so far was in 2016, when he served as operations manager of Aardklop Art Festival and, together with the operations management team, played an instrumental role in not only successfully staging the festival that year but also preventing its closure and helping to re-establish it on a sustainable footing.

In 2025, Chris is in his sixth year of passionately sharing this wealth of knowledge with our finalists as a mentor in the ATKV Mentorship Programme.
