MORE ABOUT VICTOR
Victor Fredericks is a storyteller through and through – a songwriter, poet, and singer whose work is deeply rooted in the farming life of the Western Cape. Born and raised in Wolseley, he developed a love for language, music, and human emotion from a young age.
His mother is raw, honest, and emotionally authentic. Whether in the form of blues, ballads or alternative Afrikaans tracks, Victor’s sound always carries the traces of his story – the farm, the road, love and longing.
He was selected as a finalist for the ATKV-Crescendo mentorship programme in 2024. His song Blackberry juice en jin, produced by Crescendo-produksies was released in May 2025.
Beyond music, Victor is also an award-winning writer and playwright. His poetry collection Ons stryd (Our struggle) appeared as early as 2001, followed by Voetpad oor die Witzenberg (Foot path across the Witzenberg) in 2020 and Laat Pa vertel (Let Dad speak) in 2023 — a moving tribute to his father. He has also written several plays, including Ons moet klaar praat, Ma and Laat ons praat daaroor, which explore themes of family dynamics, youth, and healing.
One of the highlights of his career was when Diana Ferrus asked him to set her internationally acclaimed poem Ek’s hier om jou huis toe te neem (I’ve come to take you home) about Saartjie Baartman to music.
He has performed at several art festivals and ATKC-Crescendo productions.
